This seminar is conducted primarily in spoken English, without interpretation. 

It is open to anyone comfortable learning and holding discussion in spoken English. It is designed for both working and student interpreters (hearing, Coda). There are no prerequisites for this program.

About this seminar

This seminar begins with the framework that interpreting is about capturing and conveying meaning across languages. For interpreters who work to and from English it is important to be able to ascertain main content areas as well as nuance and implicit meanings. This seminar will present a variety of English texts and a process for examining meaning embedded in form. In addition, we will examine possible reasons for difficulty in comprehension such as: linguistic competence, familiarity with content, and filters.
