English Discourse Analysis (spoken English)
This seminar is conducted in spoken English, without interpretation.
This seminar is designed for ASL/spoken English interpreters (Coda, hearing), who are working interpreters or students. There are no prerequisites for this program.
About this seminar
This seminar begins with the framework that interpreting is about capturing and conveying meaning across languages. For interpreters who work to and from Spoken English it is important to be able to ascertain main content areas as well as nuance and implicit meanings. This seminar will present a variety of Spoken english texts and a process for examining meaning embedded in form. In addition, we will examine possible reasons for difficulty in comprehension such as: linguistic competence, familiarity with content, and filters.
