IMI Network

What is the IMI Network? Click on Open Panel above for more info.

There are today hundreds upon hundreds of interpreters who have been actively engaged in the creation and evolution of a Community of Reflective Practitioners. This has been accomplished, in part, by their participation in both Foundations seminars and Etna Project retreats. Among these interpreters, there are many who offer their time and energy to keep the momentum going. They must be thanked here for their dedication to the field and their hard work to ensure positive change occurs one interpreter at a time.

Over the course of multiple decades, technology has altered the ways in which we connect with our colleagues. In some ways, this has been beneficial. Sometimes not. But since there now exists a healthy body of interpreters who embrace looking at their work through non-evaluative approaches that enrich the unique learning of each of us, it is time to bring us together in every way possible. With the IMI (Integrated Model of Interpreting) as a foundation to analyze the interpreting process and the use of tools such as Process Mediation, individuals can take charge of their own learning in connection with this growing network of interpreters who share a model of talking about our work.

You are invited to network here within the IMI Network. Some of those who are here have many years (even decades) of work invested in their own study of IMI and experience with PM (Process Mediation). Others have less experience, but a firm grasp on how this approach differs from traditional "feedback" from peers or mentors. And some are brand new at this, eager to investigate their own learning.

Wherever you are in this process, welcome! The social media format of the IMI Network allows you to engage in whatever ways you desire. Access is limited to those who are registered here on the BMC website. If you've attended a Foundations Seminar or Etna Project Retreat in the last couple of years, you are likely already registered here. Just sign in and start a conversation. As is the case with participation in our seminars and retreats, we ask that you follow the principles outlined here in your interactions with one another:

Presenters, coordinators, and participants of this educational opportunity agree to promote an environment of mutual respect, free from bias and discrimination.

Please note, this statement does not preclude "difficult conversations" and aims to create environments where learning and honest dialogue can happen.

You've attended a Foundations of Interpreting Seminar? Or several?

You've later gone to the Etna Project?

You want to connect with others who have come to value the learning that takes place using the framework of the IMI (Integrated Model of Interpreting) as a way to talk about our work as interpreters?

Connect with other Foundations Seminar and Etna Project participants when you visit the IMI Network. Within this professional media community of practice you'll find colleagues willing to engage on a wide variety of topics using an approach to learning that is based in Vygotskian principles of learner-centric dialogue. If you have questions about either series, want to pursue some dialogue about what you're learning at Foundations of Interpreting seminars, or want to share your experience with others, please join us.

Note: The IMI Network requires that you have a BMC account. Login or register for an account to access the network.
