NH: Enhancing Your 'R'

Enhancing Your Representations

July 28-30, 2017

Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NHEnhancing Your Representations

One of the most challenging aspects of the interpreting task is the ability to represent meaning in ways that will allow you to use working memory to understand and render an equivalent target message. Interpreters who have studied the Integrated Model of Interpreting (IMI) are familiar with this stage of the interpreting process (R).

Participants will become more proficient at creating rich representations that contribute to successful interpretations. Many of the activities are designed for you to practice working from ASL/English. Texts will also be provided.

Focused topics include:

  • 1) creating the mental environment for a better R.
  • 2) when to retain of release form.
  • 3) adjusting R for target message equivalence, and understanding/ controlling factors that hamper representation of meaning.
